  • The past continuous tense is used to describe an action that was in progress at a specific time in the past, and can be used to show that one action was interrupted by another.

Cohesive Devices

  • Cohesive devices are words or phrases that link ideas together in a text, and include conjunctions, transitions, and pronouns.
  • Examples of cohesive devices include however, therefore, in addition, and meanwhile.
  • Cohesive devices help to create a clear and logical flow of ideas in a text, and can be used to signal addition, contrast, or cause and effect.
