GNED 1201 Final Exam Information
- Date: Wednesday, December 11
- Time: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
- Location: Room U170, Triple Gym (main building)
- Format: In-person, written exam with pen/pencil and paper
- Open Book: No. No cheat sheets or notes allowed.
- Content Focus: Material from lectures, class discussions, and assigned materials from the second half of the semester.
- Question Types: Multiple choice and short/long answer written questions. Topics for longer answer questions will be outlined in advance.
- Review Materials: Updates to the review document are planned throughout the remainder of the semester.

- Concepts, Terminology, and Works: Opera, Libretto, Overture, Aria, Recitative, Vocal ranges, Coloratura, Melisma (Syllabic and Melismatic), Staccato/Legato, Mozart & The Magic Flute, Leitmotif, Composer Spotlight: Ennio Morricone, Collaborations, and Musical Score for The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
- Magic Flute Character Study: Narrative themes, Freemasonry, Masonic Themes & Imagery, and character-specific questions.
Exam Specifics
- Character Selection: Students will choose ONE character from The Magic Flute from the following list: Tamino, Papageno, Pamina, The Queen of the Night and Sarastro
- Questions: Five written answer questions exploring how the melodies reflect the chosen character's emotions, motivations, personality, character development and other elements of their persona.
- Musical Selections: Musical selections have been identified for each character for additional study.
