Glossary of Terms

• ABJURAR: To retract, renounce, sometimes publicly, a belief or commitment previously made.
• ABOMINAR: To condemn and curse someone or something considered bad or harmful. To hate someone or something.
• ABRUPTO: Steep, having a great slope; also used to describe broken terrain, difficult to access. Rough, violent, harsh.
• ABSTRUSO: Hidden, difficult to understand.
• ABULIA: Lack of will, or significant reduction in energy.
• ABYECTO: Despicable, extremely vile.
• ACENDRAR: To refine, purify metals in ash by fire. To purify, refine, cleanse, free of flaws.
• ACERBO: Harsh to the taste. Cruel, strict, unpleasant.
• ACIAGO: Unlucky, unfortunate, of bad omen.
• ACICATEAR: To incite, encourage. To push towards action.
• ACIDIA: Laziness, sloth. Sadness, distress.
• ACOQUINAR: To dishearten, intimidate.
• ACRISOLAR: To refine, purify in a crucible by fire, especially gold and metals.
• ACUCIOSO: Diligent, attentive, speedy. Driven by strong desire.
• ACUIDAD: Sharpness, subtlety. Sharpness, quick wit. Sharpness of vision.
• ADMONICIÓN: Warning, reprimand.
• ADOCENADO: Commonplace, of little merit.
• ADREDE: Deliberately, purposely.
• ADUSTO: Burned, roasted, fervent. Unpleasant, harsh, unapproachable.

• AFRENTA: Shame and dishonor resulting from a word or act, such as punishment for a crime.
• AHERRDOJAR: To shackle, imprison. To oppress, subdue.
• AHÍTO: Affected by indigestion or overeating; full. Sated, satisfied.
• ALBUR: Contingency, chance.
• ALEVE: Treacherous, who betrays in a terrible manner.
• ALGARABÍA: Uproar, noisy confusion of many voices; jumbled speech.

• AMAINAR: Mariner's term to lower or partially lower sails. To lessen, lose force (wind).

• AMPULOSO: Pompous, inflated, exaggerated in language.
