Forms of Conflict
- Revolt: a popular uprising against established formal or informal order, may lead to revolution.
- Revolution: a violent and complete change of the status quo/order through a sustained and popular movement.
- Insurgency: an uprising against the state, led by a religious, ethnic, or sectional group, aimed at destabilizing the state for a certain gain.
- Mutiny: an act of disobedience or an uprising in the military organization, against a higher command or the Commander-in-Chief, aimed at dismantling established order.
- Protest: an organized, mass, peaceful or violent demonstration against a government, an action, or an unpopular policy/decision.
Causes of Conflict
- Greed, covetousness, self-centeredness, discontent, envy, arrogance, rudeness, and impunity are innate attributes of human nature, capable of resulting in conflict with other individuals or groups.
Types of Conflict
- Man against society conflict: arises when man stands against a man-made institution or practices, such as trafficking, prostitution, human rights abuses, bullying, corruption, and bad governance.
- Man against nature conflict: depicts a situation of contention between man and his environment, or forces of nature, such as global warming, climate change, flood, and insects.
- Family conflict: occurs within a family unit, arising from familial roles and expectations.
- Inter-Group Conflict: disagreements between two or more religious, ethnic, communal, or interest groups.
- Intra-State Conflict: conflict arising from land and land water use, uneven development, resource control, revenue allocation, and others, restricted within the borders of a state.
- Inter-State Conflict: also known as international conflict, involves conflict between two or more sovereign states.
