Study Notes
Angle
- An angle is formed by two noncollinear rays with a common endpoint called a vertex.
- Angles are named using the symbol “∠”.
- Angles can be named using the vertex, with three points: a point on one side followed by the vertex then a point on the other side, or using a number.
- An angle divides the points in the plane into three regions: the interior, the exterior, and the points on the ray itself.
Types of Angles
- Reflex Angle: An angle whose measure is greater than 180° but less than 360°.
- Right Angle: An angle whose measure is exactly 90°.
- Acute Angle: An angle whose measure is less than 90°.
- Obtuse Angle: An angle whose measure is greater than 90° but less than 180°.
- Straight Angle: An angle whose measure is exactly 180°.
Angle Pairs
- Complementary Angles: Two angles that add up to 90°.
- Supplementary Angles: Two angles that add up to 180°.
- Congruent Angles: Two angles with the same measure.
- Adjacent Angles: Two angles that share a common side and vertex but have no interior points in common.
- Linear Pair: Two adjacent angles that form a straight line and are supplementary.
- Vertical Angles: Two angles whose sides form two pairs of opposite rays. Vertical angles are congruent.
