Study Notes
Revision Day 1
- Module 1, Lessons 1 and 2
- Pages 5-20
- Instructor: Mr. Kristoffer
Lesson Objectives
- Students should identify the type of transformation applied to a geometric figure on a coordinate plane accurately.
Identifying Transformations
- Question 8: Figure B is not a transformation of Figure A because they are not the same size.
- Question 9: Figure Y is a transformation of Figure X because they have the same shape and size; it is a flip.
- Question 3, A: The shapes are a flip.
- Question 3, B: The shapes are not equal in size.
- Question 10: Identifying the transformation (slide, flip, turn) for given figures.
- Question 14: Figure B is not a translation of Figure A because their sizes are not matching.
Translations
- Question 3: Triangle DEF is translated 3 units to the right, and 4 units down using the rule (x, y) → (x + 3, y – 4). This results in new coordinates for the vertices of the image.
Test Prep
- Question 6: Figure 3 is the translation of Figure A.
- Question 7: The triangle is translated using the rule (x, y) → (x − 3, y + 2). The coordinates of the image are calculated.
Transformations - Other examples
-
Question 8: A quadrilateral translated 5 units right and 3 units down. Expressions that would calculate x and y coordinates for the image are identified.
-

Question 15:
- Parallelogram ABCD was translated to parallelogram A'B'C'D'.
- The x-coordinates of parallelogram ABCD moved 3 units to the right.
-
Question 16:
- Two trapezoids are given.
- Side AB is congruent to side YZ (True, based on stated congruence).
- ∠A is congruent to ∠X (True, based on stated congruence, angles).
