Study Notes
Perimeter of a Rectangle
- The perimeter of a rectangle is the distance around the outside of the rectangle.
- The formula to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle is: P = 2(l + w)
- Where P is the perimeter, l is the length, and w is the width.
Area of a Rectangle
- The area of a rectangle is the amount of space inside the rectangle.
- The formula to calculate the area of a rectangle is: A = l × w
- Where A is the area, l is the length, and w is the width.
Scalene Triangles and Rectangles
- A scalene triangle is a triangle with all sides of different lengths.
- A rectangle can be divided into two scalene triangles by drawing a diagonal.
- The diagonal of a rectangle bisects the rectangle into two congruent scalene triangles.
- The angles of the scalene triangles are:
- Two right angles (90°) at the vertices of the rectangle
- Two unequal acute angles at the vertices where the diagonal meets the sides
