Study Notes
Similarity of Triangles
- In triangles, if h = h, then A : A = 1:1
- If △ABC ~ △QRP, then corresponding sides are proportional
Triangle Similarity Criteria
- △ABC ~ △APQ, A-P-B and A-Q-C, if A(△ABC) = 16 A(△APQ), then PQ:BC = 1:4
Conditions for Similarity
- △DEF ~ △PQR, ∠D ≅ ∠Q, ∠R ≅ ∠E, then EF PR = DF PQ and DE PQ = EF RP
- In △DEF and △PQR, if ∠D ≅ ∠Q, ∠R ≅ ∠E, then DE QR ≠ DF PQ
Tests of Similarity
- ∠P = 35°, ∠X = 35°, ∠Q = 60°, ∠Y = 60°, then △PXQ ~ △XYQ (AA similarity test)
- If corresponding angles are equal, then triangles are similar (AA similarity test)
Triangle Similarity Theorems
- If two triangles have proportional corresponding sides, then they are similar
