Geography

- There are five themes of geography: location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region.
Location
- Location is a fixed position in space that allows us to discuss places in terms anyone can understand.
- There are two types of location:
- Absolute Location: A precise position based on coordinates.
- Relative Location: A description based on its position relative to other places.
Place
- Every place on Earth has unique physical features such as climate, landforms, bodies of water, plants, and animals.
- Places can change over time.
Regions
- Regions are areas with common physical or human characteristics.
- These can be formal regions (cities, countries, etc.) or functional regions (economic zones).
Movement
- Movement refers to the movement of people, goods, ideas, and information from one place to another.
- Migration is a type of movement influenced by various factors.
Human-Environment Interaction
- Humans interact with the environment by depending on it, adapting to it, and modifying it.
Branches of Geography
- Physical Geography: Studies the structure of the physical environment, including climate, landforms, and natural patterns.
- Human Geography: Studies the effects of human behavior on the environment and includes cultural, economic, and political impacts.
