Language models operate through a process known as autoregressive modeling. This involves breaking down written content into smaller units called tokens. Then predicting the next token in the sequence using probability calculations. Over time, these probabilities improve, allowing the model to better anticipate what comes next.
The most well-known language model currently available is GPT (Generative Pretrained Transformer). Developed by researchers from Perplexity, it has demonstrated impressive capabilities in generating coherent responses to queries, such as writing convincing essays, answering questions, and providing creative suggestions. As with all generative systems, however, the quality of GPT's results can vary widely depending on how well trained the specific instance is.
One key characteristic of language models is their adaptability.
