Ingredients

• Clay, Feldspar, Quartz and Kaolin are the ingredients needed for ceramic models

Vitreous China (VC)

• Includes Kaolin, Ball Clay, Feldspar & Quarz
• VC provides high strength and a high quality finish
• It also has high shrinkage (12%)
• VC has low porosity and low water absorption

Fine Fireclay (FFC)

• A vitrous China where Feldspar is replaced with Chamotte(finely pre fired clay)
• Has reduced shrinkage (4 to 5%)
• There is some water absorption
• FFC has low porosity but low water absorption is higher than VC
• Not suitable for WCs

Sanitary Ware Production Process

• Glaze preparation is done at the same time as slip preparation
• Mould making occurs at the same time
• The slip preparation leads to casting
• The casting leads to drying, which leads to glazing
• The Glazing leads to loading and the loading leads to firing
• Grinding occurs at the same time as final inspection, which leads to packaging
• Another step is Refiring
• Constant quality control is always in place during the whole process

Ceramics Basics

• Dry plaster mould comes first
• Then filling takes place
• Followed by emptying
• Demoulding is last

Shrinkage

• Ceramics materials undergo shrinkage during production
