French Pronouns and Verb Conjugation

  • French pronouns include: je (I), tu (you), il (he), elle (she), nous (we), vous (you plural), and ils/elles (they).
  • These pronouns are used as subjects in sentences and have different forms depending on their grammatical function.

Verb Conjugation

Present Tense

  • 1st group verbs (-ER verbs) have a specific conjugation pattern, for example, parler (to speak): je parle, tu parles, il parle, nous parlons, vous parlez, ils parlent.
  • 2nd group verbs (-IR and -RE verbs) have another specific conjugation pattern, for example, finir (to finish): je finis, tu finis, il finit, nous finissons, vous finissez, ils finissent.
  • ETRE (to be) and AVOIR (to have) are irregular verbs and have unique conjugations in the present tense, for example, être: je suis, tu es, il est, nous sommes, vous êtes, ils sont; avoir: j'ai, tu as, il a, nous avons, vous avez, ils ont.

Past Tense (Imperfect)

  • 1st and 2nd group verbs have specific conjugation patterns in the imperfect tense, for example, parler: je parlais, tu parlais, il parlait, nous parlions, vous parliez, ils parlaient.
  • ETRE and AVOIR have unique conjugations in the imperfect tense, for example, être: j'étais, tu étais, il était, nous étions, vous étiez, ils étaient; avoir: j'avais, tu avais, il avait, nous avions, vous aviez, ils avaient.

Future Tense
