Instruction Permits and Temporary Licenses

• Applicants aged 18 or older, who lack instruction in operating a motor vehicle, can apply for a temporary instruction permit.
• The permit allows driving a motor vehicle of the type requiring a Class E driver license on highways for 90 days, accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old and licensed to operate the same class of vehicle.

Temporary Permits for Class E Driver License

• The department may issue a temporary permit to applicants for a Class E driver license, allowing them to operate a motor vehicle while the department completes its investigation.
• The permit is valid until the applicant's license is issued or refused for good cause.

Temporary Commercial Instruction Permits

• Applicants who lack instruction in operating a commercial motor vehicle can apply for a temporary commercial instruction permit.
• To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Possess a valid Florida driver license.
  • Be accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old, licensed to operate the same class of vehicle, and occupying the closest seat to the right of the driver.
• The permit allows driving a commercial motor vehicle on highways.
