Mayday Operations
- A MAYDAY is when a firefighter cannot safely exit a hazardous zone.

- Who: Identity of the firefighter – Unit, Unit riding position, or name
- What: The condition(s) that caused the MAYDAY
- Where: Current location/surroundings or the last known location
- NEEDS: Needs that will help resolve the MAYDAY (critical)
- Upon receiving a MAYDAY, the Incident Commander (IC) must:
- Acknowledge the MAYDAY.
- Identify the company or firefighter(s) involved.
- Get a MAYDAY CAN Report.
- Contact North Comm for Emergency Traffic.
- Formally announce the MAYDAY on the tactical channel.
- Request the next greater alarm.
- Develop an IAP (Incident Action Plan) using the Help Order.

- Non-suppression crews in proximity to the MAYDAY should be prepared to assist with rescue efforts.
- The Spring Fire Department has a specific "Help Order" protocol that guides rescue during a MAYDAY:
- Step 1: Communicate with the MAYDAY firefighter to facilitate self-rescue.
- Step 2: Use the MAYDAY firefighter’s company to assist with the rescue.
- Step 3: Use other crews in the hazard zone near the MAYDAY firefighter to assist with the rescue.
