Firearm Surrender and Disposal
- Firearms surrendered or seized will remain unclaimed for a minimum of one year post-expiration of the temporary or continuing order.
- If unclaimed after this period, the firearm becomes the property of the police department.
- The disposal of such firearms follows the forfeiture procedures outlined in OMS 106.05 (2).
- Documentation of the disposal process must be submitted to both the respondent and the courts.
- Records of the firearm disposal are to be maintained by the Evidence and Property Section of the police department.
