- Defined as conditions that may result in significant loss, either in life or property.

- High concentration of flammable materials of substantial monetary value.
- Important considerations for identifying target hazards include:
- Building construction and type of occupancy.
- Spacing between buildings and presence of fire protection devices.
- Availability and distribution of water supply.
- Sizeable life hazards.
Examples of Target Hazards
- Various facility types that may pose increased risk:
- Lumber yards, auditoriums, and distilleries.
- Hospitals, nursing homes, and large marinas.
- Bulk oil storage, grain elevators, and high-rise buildings.
- Large warehouses (over 300,000 sq.ft) and amusement areas.
Fire Survey Plan Preparation
- Initial interviews with the building owner or responsible personnel are critical before conducting surveys.
- The Fire Survey Plan should contain consistent, vital information; excessive detail can hinder usability.
- Use Form #41 from the computer library for the plan.
- Fire Survey Plans should include:

Drawing Specifications

- Clearly indicate the location of utility shutoffs, outside door openings, and water pipe sizes.
- Note any inaccessibility to apparatus on the drawings.
