Study Notes
Staffing
- The daily schedule for Boynton Beach Fire Rescue staff should be reviewed and reported to the Chain of Command.
- Station 2, 3, and 4 will each have one spare radio.
- Station 1 will receive one spare, two Special Detail radios, and three R106 radios.
- Station 5 will receive one spare radio and one TRT spare radio.
- Station Officers are responsible for storing, maintaining, and securing all station radios.
Reporting
- Extra personnel assigned to a fully staffed vehicle will be assigned a spare radio.
- Unit officers must notify the on-duty Battalion Chief of the radio identification number assigned to extra personnel.
- The Battalion Chief will place a radio tag in CrewSense for the person assigned the spare radio.
- Spare radios must be returned to the Station Radio Cabinet once no longer in use.
Apparatus Safe Backing
- The use of spotters is required when backing fire apparatus is unavoidable or restrictive clearance maneuvers are required.
- Two Suppression Units, two Rescue Units, TRT 105, EMS 101, and Battalion 105 are required to use spotters.
Emergency Response Assignments
- All response assignments are categorized by Incident Type.
- First, Second, and Third alarms initiate varying responses.
- Public Assist incidents are handled by one Suppression Unit (S/U) or one Rescue Unit (R) with a non-emergency response.
- Investigations are conducted by one S/U or one R.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) is handled by one S/U or one R.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) incidents will need one R or one S/U and one R.
- Critical Life Support (CLS) will require one R and one S/U.
- Shooting or Stabbing incidents will require one R, one S/U, and EMS 101. Additional Rescues are added for each victim.
- Assault incidents (severe injury) will require one R, one S/U, and EMS 101, with additional Rescue units based on the number of victims.
Incident Safety Officer
- Incident Safety Officers must identify and report unsafe conditions, including hazards associated with the incident.
- Examples of unsafe conditions include back-draft, flash-over, structural collapse, personnel requiring rehabilitation, opposing fire streams, inadequate lighting, unsecured utilities, dangerous areas, decontamination operations, and personnel not wearing turnout gear, full SCBA, and pass devices.
- Communication of any identified unsafe conditions is critical.
Tactical Priorities
- The Tactical Priorities of Boynton Beach Fire Rescue include:

- These priorities must be addressed sequentially to stabilize an incident.
Mayday Procedure
- Fire Dispatch will call out a Mayday response, which consists of:
- Two Suppression Units
- Two Rescue Units
- Truck 105
- TRT 105
- Battalion Chief 103 and 105
- Assistant Chief of Operations.
- When a Mayday is called, Fire Dispatch will assign a second tactical channel to the incident.
- The second due Chief Officer will assume command of the incident upon arrival.
- The original Incident Commander will be re-assigned as the RIT Leader.
- All personnel assigned to the RIT will operate on the original tactical channel to maintain clear communication with the personnel calling the Mayday.
- Command will conduct a PAR (Personnel Accountability Report) to ensure the safety of all staff.
Motor Vehicle Accident Management
- It is critical to avoid placing anything (including your body) between a patient and a non-deployed airbag due to the risk of remaining electrical charges.
- Car manufacturers are frequently adding side-impact airbags in newer models, which must be considered.
- Impact-absorbing bumpers can return to their original position at any time after an incident and must be avoided to prevent injuries.
- Critical patients should be triaged and accessed by Fire Rescue personnel wearing appropriate protective clothing.
- The airway, spine, and secondary assessment must be stabilized with critical patients.
- The Fire Department Apparatus Placement Standard during an MVA involving Interstate or Divided Highway must be adhered to.
