- Figures of style (or rhetoric) are a process that acts on language to create a sound or sense effect.
- Key figures of style that you may encounter in texts are presented below in alphabetical order.
Allegory
- Giving human qualities to an abstract idea
- Example: "O Death, old captain, it's time!"

- Repetition of one or more consonants in words within a group of words
- Alliteration and assonance should be noted and commented on
