Figurative Language
- Figurative language is used to make writing more descriptive and interesting, comparing qualities of similar subjects, creating vivid images, or exaggerating to prove a point.
- It includes metaphors, similes, hyperbole, and personification.
Metaphor
- A metaphor compares two subjects by directly stating one is the other.
- It helps readers think about the subjects in new ways and must be interpreted.

Simile
- A simile uses "like" or "as" to make a comparison between two different subjects.
- The reader must make the connection between the two subjects.

Hyperbole
- Hyperbole is a figure of speech that uses extreme exaggeration for emphasis.
- Statements are untrue and not meant to be taken literally.

Personification
