FFA Symbolism and Jacket Guidelines

FFA Symbolism

• The ear of corn represents unity and the fact that corn is grown in every state
• The eagle represents national freedom, the ability to explore new horizons and the future of agriculture
• The rising sun represents progress and a new day with opportunities
• The plow represents labor, tillage of the soil, and is the backbone of historic agriculture
• The owl represents the knowledge and wisdom required to be successful in agriculture
• The words "Agricultural Education" and "FFA" represent the combination of learning and leadership for progress

FFA Jacket

• The blue corduroy jacket is the most recognizable symbol of the FFA organization
• Members are responsible for its proper use
• The jacket should be worn by members only, and in a professional manner
• It should not visit inappropriate places, and should be kept clean and neat
• It should be worn for official FFA occasions
• The jacket front should have only the student’s name, chapter, year, and emblem
• The back should have state, chapter, and emblem
• No school letters or insignias should be worn on the jacket
• Don’t give or sell to a non-member with the lettering and emblems
• No tobacco, alcohol, or drug use while wearing the jacket
• No inappropriate behavior
• You can wear three pins on the front of the jacket: highest degree earned, highest office held, and highest award earned

• Leadership role
• Good for Resume
• Memorize the official ceremonies
• Roles include:

Officer Positions

• President: Rising sun
  • Runs the meeting
  • Appoints committees
  • Represents the FFA chapter
  • Works with Vice President and teachers to prepare events
  • Coordinates officers meetings
• Vice President: Plow
  • Takes over the position for the president
  • Coordinates committee work
  • Works with President and teachers to prepare events
• Secretary: Ear of corn
  • Makes agenda for meetings
  • Maintains attendance records
• Treasurer: Emblem of Washington
  • Takes care of collecting any money to deliver to teachers for deposit
  • Records all cash flow
  • Gives minutes of account balance at meetings
• Reporter: Flag
  • Plans public programs (radio, newspaper, etc.)
  • Creates chapter scrapbook
• Sentinel: Door
  • Maintains order
  • Sets up the meeting room
• Advisor: Owl
  • Supervises all activities
