Study Notes

Mathematics is a vast field of study that encompasses various areas such as algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and trigonometry. Each of these branches has its own unique characteristics and applications, yet they all share a common goal: to help us understand patterns and relationships within numerical data and quantitative systems.

Algebra focuses on generalizing arithmetic operations beyond whole numbers, integers, fractions, and decimals, allowing us to perform calculations with abstract quantities like variables. Geometry involves studying points, lines, angles, triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, polygons, congruence, similarity, probability, and coordinate graphing—all while exploring shapes and their properties. Calculus deals with limits, derivatives, integrals, differentials, and differential equations; it's used for modeling physical phenomena by describing how things change over time and space. Statistics uses mathematical theories to collect and interpret qualitative and quantitative data so we can make informed decisions based on our findings. Trigonometry studies right triangle relations among side lengths and angle measures using a set of six basic functions called sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant. These five areas work together to form the backbone of modern mathematics, providing us with tools to solve problems ranging from simple addition and multiplication to complex computations involving infinite series and differential equations.
