Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay (R D Banerji)
- Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay, also known as R D Banerji, was born in Murshidabad district in Bengal in 1885
- He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in History from Calcutta University
- R D Banerji joined the Archeological Survey of India in 1911
- He played a key role in the discovery of the Indus Valley Civilization and was the first to excavate the Mohenjodaro site
- The excavations changed our understanding of Indian history by over 1,500 years
- R D Banerji suggested similarities between the sites and artefacts found at Harappa and Mohenjodaro, and proposed that the site was of 'remote antiquity'
