European Union Institutions
- European Parliament: Comprised of 751 directly elected representatives from 28 EU member states. They debate, discuss, and pass EU legislation. Represent the interests of EU citizens.
- European Commission: Composed of one commissioner per EU member state. It initiates legislation, manages EU budget, and enforces EU law.
- Council of the European Union (Council of Ministers): Represents member state governments, and negotiates and adopts EU laws together with the Parliament.
- Court of Justice of the European Union: Ensures uniform application of EU law in all member states. Rules on disputes.
- European Council: Composed of Heads of State/Government of EU member states. They define the general political direction and priorities of the EU.
