    Epithelial Tissues

    • Squamous Epithelium: Composed of a single layer of flattened cells with irregular edges. Found in blood vessel walls and lung air sacs. Functions include forming a diffusion boundary.

    • Cuboidal Epithelium: Composed of a single layer of cube-shaped cells. Commonly found in gland ducts and parts of the nephrons (kidneys). Functions include secretion and absorption. Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT) of the nephron has microvilli.

    • Columnar Epithelium: Composed of a single layer of tall, slender cells. Nuclei are located at the base. May have microvilli on the free surface. Found in stomach and intestinal lining, supporting secretion and absorption.

    • Ciliated Epithelium: Columnar or cuboidal cells with cilia on their free surfaces. These cells move particles or mucus in a specific direction. Primarily found in the inner linings of hollow organs, like bronchioles and fallopian tubes.
