Epinephrine Injector
- Used for severe allergic reactions caused by food, insect bites, etc.
- Decreases body's allergic reaction and relaxes muscles in airway to make breathing easier.
- How to use: place orange tip against outer thigh, push until it clicks, and hold for 3 seconds.
Heimlich Maneuver
- Check if person is breathing and conscious, then open up airway and conduct artificial respiration.
- Performs CPR at a rate of 100 times per minute.
- Can be performed by someone else (adult) or by yourself.
- For infants: lay face down, point head downward, give 5 quick forceful blows, and then 5 chest thrusts.
Heimlich Maneuver (Adult Assistance)
- Place thumb side of fist slightly above belly button, hold fist tight with other hand, and quickly thrust upwards and inward into belly.
- Repeat several times until choking object comes loose.
Heimlich Maneuver (Self-Performed)
- Grasp fist with other hand, place hands above navel, and lean over a chair or countertop to drive fist towards yourself with an upward thrust.
Emergencies
- Call 911 (USA) and provide information until ambulance arrives.
- Go to hospital and see your doctor.
- Ambulance costs: Basic ($940), Advanced life support ($1300), Insurance ($450-$1000).
Visiting a Hospital
- Wait in line and present yourself to the front desk.
- Submit your photo ID card and provide important information.
- Wait to be called.
- If you have chest pain or symptoms of a stroke, go to the front desk directly.
- Typical requirements: full name, date of birth, address, phone number, insurance information, photo ID, allergies, and chronic illnesses.
- You may need to fill out medical history forms and provide information about current medications or conditions.
