Study Notes
EPCOT Overview
- EPCOT, or Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, was initially conceived by Walt Disney as a planned community showcasing modern innovation.
- After his death, the project transitioned into a theme park, retaining its core vision.
- The park is divided into Future World (showcasing innovation) and World Showcase (highlighting global cultures).
- Future World has been restructured into World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature.
- EPCOT covers 305 acres (123 hectares), significantly larger than Magic Kingdom.
- In 2023, EPCOT attracted 11.98 million visitors, ranking among the world's top eight theme parks.
World Showcase
- World Showcase features pavilions representing different countries, showcasing their cultures through food, drink, and entertainment.
- Planned pavilions for Israel, Spain, and Equatorial Africa were announced in 1982 but never built.
- A small African-themed refreshment area, "Outpost", now occupies this former location.
- Many countries participated in the Millennium Village project (1999-2001), located behind the UK pavilion. This temporary structure now functions as World ShowPlace.
- Countries represented include Brazil, Chile, India, Indonesia, Israel, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and five African nations (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, and South Africa).
Alcoholic Beverages and Food Festival
- Unlike Magic Kingdom (until 2012), EPCOT features alcoholic beverages in numerous stores and restaurants, particularly in World Showcase.
- The park offers a variety of drinks reflecting different cultures, including specialty cocktails, craft beers, wines, and spirits.
- EPCOT hosts an annual International Food & Wine Festival, offering food and drink samples from around the globe.
