Asking About Someone's Job
- To find out what someone's job is, you ask "What do you do?"
- You can talk about your job by explaining what you do, who you work for, and your responsibilities.
Expressions with "Work"
- "In charge of" is used with a noun, e.g. "I'm in charge of design budgets."
- "Responsible for" is used with a verb and -ing, e.g. "I'm responsible for coordination between design and production."
- "Responsibility" can be used with an infinitive or -ing, e.g. "One of my responsibilities is to make sure that new model designs are finished on time" or "One of my responsibilities is making sure that new model designs are finished on time."
- "Work" can refer to the place where you do your job, e.g. "I go to work by train and subway."
- "In work" means having a job, e.g. "The percentage of people in work has risen."
- "Out of work" means not having a job, e.g. "The percentage of people out of work has fallen."
Types of Jobs and Work
- A full-time job is one that is for the whole of the normal working week.
- A part-time job is one that is for less time than a full-time job.
