Past Simple of Regular Verbs
- Forming the past simple of regular verbs:
- Add -ed to the base form of the verb (e.g. walk -> walked)
- If the verb ends in -e, add -d (e.g. love -> loved)
- If the verb ends in a consonant + y, change the y to -i and add -ed (e.g. try -> tried)
- Examples:
- I walked to school.
- She played with her friends.
- They watched TV.
Past Simple of Irregular Verbs
- Irregular verbs do not follow the -ed rule:
- They have a different form for the past simple (e.g. go -> went)
- There are many irregular verbs in English (over 200!)
- Examples:
- I went to the park.

- They ate breakfast.
