Another important element of English grammar involves tenses. Tense indicates time relations between events described by verbs in a clause, such as past, present, future, perfect, progressive, etc.. Understanding tenses correctly ensures consistent and clear communication through writing or speech.

Additionally, punctuation plays a crucial role in conveying intent accurately. A comma after 'I', for example, signals the end of a complete independent thought while leaving out this comma suggests continuity with subsequent text. Punctuation marks serve various functions beyond just separating words; they help convey intonations and emphasize specific points within a piece of text.
