Safety Protocols
- The safety of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel is paramount to quality patient care.
- Each scene should be properly evaluated for hazardous materials, fire, violent patients, and circumstances.
- Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be utilized according to WPFD Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) and relevant protocols.
Consent and Treatment
- Verbal consent should be obtained prior to treatment.
- Respect the patient's right to privacy and dignity.
- The paramedic should decide if Advanced Life Support (ALS) measures will be needed upon patient contact.
- ALS interventions should be instituted simultaneously with the initial assessment.
Critical Rhythms
- Critical rhythms include: V-Fib, V-Tach, SVT, Asystole, 2nd Degree Type 2, 3rd Degree, Idioventricular, Agonal, ST Elevation MI, and ST Depression.
Equipment Operation
- The paramedic should be able to operate all current EMS equipment utilized by the Winter Park Fire Department.

Daily Protocol Quizzes
- Daily protocol quizzes will be administered by the preceptor to assist in assessing weaknesses and strengths.
- Quizzes are not meant to be graded but used as a tool in facilitating familiarity with the protocols.
- Quizzes can be done with the preceptor or alone and are self-graded by open book review.
Administrative Policies
- Administrative policies include: Index, General Measures, Radio Report Format, Refusal of Service, Physician or Nurse on Scene, Termination of Resuscitation, Determination of Death, and Unattended Death or Crime Scene.
- Other policies include: Medical Evaluation of a Person in Police Custody, Taser Probe Evaluation, Trauma Transport Protocols, Emergency Transport, and Criteria for Helicopter Transport.
