    Study Notes

    Initial Response

    • Initial arriving apparatus responds to the dispatched location.
    • Subsequent arriving apparatus responds to the same location or as directed by the TFS IC or pre-planning.

    Establishing Command

    • Initial arriving crew assumes Command as per Training Note 104.3.7.
    • Crews remain on the assigned TAC Channel and do not switch to F/G 5/6.

    Subway Station Access

    • Initial crew entering a subway station (during business hours) accesses the Fire Safety Plan Box and reports to the Customer Service Booth.
    • The BM Key aboard TFS apparatus can be used for access to the subway station (outside of business hours) and the Fire Safety Plan Box.

    Investigation and Command

    • The IC may operate in a Mobile Command mode until a situation requires a task level action.
    • The IC becomes the Platform Sector Officer, operating in a Static Command mode, when fire or heavy smoke is encountered.
    • The Platform Sector Officer upgrades to a 2nd alarm.
    • The Platform Sector Officer duties include:
    • Maintaining Static Command
    • Advising Command of their location from the EAS door label
    • Communicating with TTC Transit Control Centre via the PAX phone
    • Designating a Staging area and a controlled area with an Entry Control person
    • Notifying Command when additional resources or personnel are required
    • Setting up air supply for their Sector
    • Ensuring adequate resources are maintained in the Sector
    • Coordinating personnel re-assignment through Command
    • Controlling when personnel are assigned to Rehab Sector
    • Conducting and reporting PAR status of their Sector when necessary

    Incident Action Plan

    • Tasks are taken as per the Incident Action Plan (IAP):
    • Immediate rescue
    • Locating and extinguishing fire
    • Locating the train
    • Counting the number of passengers

    Water Supply

    • The driver locates the Dry Drop/Dry Fire Line (DFL) FDC's via the "Dry Drop Booklet" found aboard TFS apparatus.
    • The driver relocates the apparatus and connects to the appropriate Dry Drop/DFL FDC in relation to the fire location.
    • A subsequent pump equipped apparatus is relocated and connected to the other Dry Drop/DFL FDC, located at grade level at the other end of the subway station.
    • TFS crews always use a 65mm CSA threaded hydrant gate when connecting to ALL TTC FDC's.
    • A water supply is established as soon as possible.

    Special Considerations

    • Davisville and Rosedale Subway Stations require a hose line to be stretched from the apparatus as they do not have a Dry Drop or DFL system.
    • Stretching a hose line from the apparatus may be the most appropriate tactic if there is no Dry Drop/DFL at the station or in an outside track area, or if the Dry Drop/DFL has a catastrophic failure.
