- The steps to follow in an emergency are to check the scene and the person, call 9-1-1 or the designated emergency number, and then care for the person.
- Call 9-1-1 or the designated emergency number if the person is having persistent chest pain, trouble breathing, or is unresponsive.
- Unusual behavior, sounds, or odors could signal an emergency.
- When wearing latex-free disposable gloves:
- Avoid unnecessary surface contact.
- Change gloves between providing care for different individuals.
- Wash hands after removing the gloves.
- When conducting a head-to-toe check on a responsive person complaining of a leg injury, get consent first.
