Word Parts

  • Root words, prefixes, and suffixes are used to build medical terminology
  • Examples of root words: Cardio (heart), Neuro (nerve), Naso (nose/nasal), Oro (mouth/oral)
  • Examples of prefixes: Hyper- (above normal, high), Hypo- (below normal, low)
  • Examples of suffixes: -ology (study of), -al (pertaining to), -ist (one who specializes in)

Anatomical Terms

  • Anatomical position is a standard reference point for the body
  • Right and left refer to the body's right and left sides
  • Body positions: Supine (lying on the back), Prone (lying on the stomach)
