Elimination Tournament

  • A type of tournament where single or pair losses instantly eliminate participants, suitable for time-constrained events.
  • Disadvantageous for maximal play.

Types of Elimination

  • Single Elimination Tournament: Loser of each match is immediately eliminated from winning the championship.
  • Double Elimination Tournament: A participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament upon having lost two games or matches.
  • Round Robin Tournament: Each competitor plays against everyone within their division category in a separate heads-up match.

Round Robin Tournament

  • Brackets list matches played by round.
  • Teams are seeded to match up against weaker ones in early rounds, and top teams meet up in the finals.
  • Winner can be determined by a points system or a "by match win" system.
  • Tiebreaker methods are used in case of a tie.

Korfball

  • A mixed-gender team sport similar to netball and basketball.
  • Aim is to score points by putting the ball through a basket.
  • No running with the ball, emphasis is on movement and teamwork to score points.
  • Men can only defend against men, and women can only defend against women.

History of Korfball

  • Devised by Nico Broekhuysen, a Dutch educator, for all students in his class.
  • Quickly gained popularity in its homeland and surrounding countries.

Playing Time and Periods
