- An element is a particular part of something, a part or aspect of something abstract, especially one that is essential or characteristic.
- The elements of visual arts are the building blocks used to create a work of art.
Line
- A line is an important element at the disposal of every artist.
- A line always has direction.
- There are two classifications of lines:
- Straight lines:
- Horizontal lines suggest repose, serenity, and calmness.
- Vertical lines denote action, suggesting poise, balance, force, aspiration, exaltation, and dynamism.
- Diagonal lines suggest action, life, and movement.
- Curved lines:
- Suggest grace, subtleness, direction, instability, movement, flexibility, joyousness, and grace.
- Can be classified as:
- Crooked or jagged lines, which express energy, violence, conflict, and struggle.
- Repetitive lines, which follow or repeat one another.
- Transitional lines, which modify or soften the effect of others.
- Straight lines:
Color
- Color has the most aesthetic appeal of all the elements of visual arts.
- Delight in color is a universal human characteristic.
- Color is a property of light, and the light of the sun contains all the colors of the spectrum.
- There are three dimensions of color.

Music

- Plot, which is the over-all structure of the play.
- Setting, which is the locale and period in which the story takes place.
- Dialogue, which refers to the words uttered by characters in the story.
- Theme, which is what the story means.
- Characters, which are the persons involved in the story.
- Protagonist, which is the central character or the character around which the story revolves.
- Antagonist, which is the character that challenges the role of the protagonist.
Theater
- Elements of theater include:
- Acting and the stars, which is the art of portraying or impersonating a character in the story.
- Color in the movies, which is an innovation in cinematography.
- Make-up, hair, and costume design, which are responsible for applying the specific make-up, hairstyle, and costume.
- Sound, camera, and special effects technicians, who are responsible for making the dialogue clear and the music of fine quality.
- Set and art directors, who know the setting of the story and build artificial sets.
- Music and musical director, who oversees selecting, composing new songs, writing orchestration, preparing background music, creating musical scores, and supervising all recording.
