Study Notes
Diodes and Amplifiers
- A diode clamper shifts the dc level of a signal, adding a dc component to the signal.
- The average voltage for a pure sinusoidal full waveform is zero.
Diode Characteristics
- In an ordinary diode, as the reverse voltage (Vr) is continuously increased in reverse bias mode, the reverse current remains very small until the reverse breakdown voltage is reached.
- Beyond the reverse breakdown voltage, the reverse current increases rapidly.
Amplifier Configurations
- In a common collector configuration, the input signal is applied to the base and the output is taken from the emitter.
- The phase relation between input and output in a common emitter amplifier is 0° or 360° (in phase).
- In a common collector configuration, the input signal is applied to the base and the output is taken from the emitter.
FETs vs BJTs
- The main advantage of FETs over BJTs is their low power consumption and high input impedance.
Limiters
- A positive limiter removes the part of a signal above a certain level, limiting the signal amplitude.
- The function of a positive limiter in a circuit is to limit the signal amplitude.
Diode Clamper
- A diode clamper shifts the dc level of a signal, adding a dc component to the signal.
- The purpose of a diode clamper in a circuit is to add a dc component to a signal, shifting its dc level.
