GCSE French Specification (8658)
- This qualification is linear, meaning all exams are taken at the end of the course.

Subject Content
- The specification covers three themes: Identity and culture; Local, national, international and global areas of interest; Current and future study and employment.

Scheme of Assessment
- The course includes four papers: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
- All papers must be taken at the same tier (Foundation or Higher).
- Listening: A written exam (35-45 minutes, 25% of the GCSE), assesses understanding and response to spoken language.
- Speaking: Non-exam assessment (7–12 minutes + preparation time, 25% of GCSE), assesses communication and interaction.
- Reading: A written exam (45-60 minutes, 25% of GCSE), assesses understanding and response to written language.
- Writing: A written exam (60-75 minutes, 25% of GCSE), assesses communication effectively in writing.
General Administration
- One entry code is required for all assessment components and certification.
- The specifications are aligned with the conditions set by Ofqual.
- There are no overlaps with other AQA qualifications at this level.
- Students' grades are measured on a 9-point scale (1-9).
- Resits are possible within the qualification's shelf life.
