Ed 9: Assessment in Learning 1

• This course focuses on principles, development, and utilization of assessment tools to improve teaching and learning
• Emphasis is on the use of assessment of, as, and for learning
• Course allows pre-service teachers to go through standard steps in test development for application
• It also provides training in scoring, organizing, analyzing, interpreting and communicating assessment results
• This course aims to help pre-service teachers demonstrate a variety of thinking skills in planning assessing and evaluating learning
• Key outcomes include:
  • Design conventional assessment tools to measure knowledge and other thinking skills
  • Interpret assessment results and use these to improve teaching and learning
  • Keep accurate and updated records of the learners’ performance using feasible and appropriate technology tools
  • Provide timely feedback to the assessment of peers

Teacher Assessment Competencies in the PPST

• The Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) shall be used as a basis for all learning

Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers

• Article VIII: The Teachers and Learners
  • Teachers have the right and duty to determine academic marks and promotions of learners
  • Teachers should immediately take appropriate actions in case of a complaint
  • The interest and welfare of learners are of first and foremost concern, and teachers shall deal justifiably and impartially with each of them
  • Teachers shall not be prejudiced or discriminate against a learner
  • Teachers should only evaluate a learners work based on merit and quality of academic performance
  • Teachers shall not inflict corporal punishment on offending learners or make deductions from their scholastic ratings for acts which are not a manifestation of poor scholarship
  • Teachers shall ensure that conditions that contribute to the maximum development of learners are adequate, and shall extend assistance needed in preventing or solving learner’s problems and difficulties
