Study Notes
Ultrasound Technology
- Ultrasound technology uses high-frequency inaudible sound waves, above 20 km2, for echolocation and navigation.
- Echolocation is a method of navigating using sound waves rather than sight.
Components of Ultrasound Equipment
- Trackditder: produces sound waves
- Console: controls the system
- CPU: processes the data
- Probe: transducer that produces and receives ultrasound pulses
Principles of Ultrasound
- Ionoffoce: more reflection occurs with a larger difference in acoustic impedance between two media
- Gel is used as a medium between the probe and the skin to reduce refraction and increase reflection
- Sound waves can be absorbed by certain materials, such as bone and air
Applications of Ultrasound
- Early pregnancy detection and monitoring of the uterus
- Real-time imaging of internal organs and structures
- Doppler ultrasound: measures blood flow and velocity
Advantages of Ultrasound
- No radiation exposure
- Non-invasive and comfortable for patients
- Wide availability and accessibility
- High-resolution imaging with fine details
- Excellent for guiding interventional procedures
