Earth's Spheres

  • The Earth is comprised of several interconnected spheres: Lithosphere (Geosphere), Hydrosphere, Atmosphere, and Biosphere.

Lithosphere

  • Also known as the Geosphere
  • It comprises the Earth's solid outer layer, including the crust and upper mantle

Hydrosphere

  • Includes all forms of water on Earth: oceans, lakes, rivers, groundwater, ice, and water vapor

Atmosphere

  • The layer of gas surrounding the Earth

Biosphere

  • Encompasses all living organisms and their interactions with the Earth's other spheres

Interactions between Spheres:

  • Water from oceans evaporates into the atmosphere, forms clouds, and returns as rain or snow, affecting both the atmosphere and hydrosphere
  • Rainwater infiltrates the ground (lithosphere), replenishes underground pools, and erodes rocks over time, which helps plants grow (biosphere)
  • Decomposing plants enrich the soil (lithosphere) with nutrients that new plants need (biosphere)
  • Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during photosynthesis and release oxygen

Conservation

  • Clean water is vital for all life on Earth
  • First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures deeply respect water, adhering to natural laws that protect it

Water Conservation

  • Conserving water involves wisely using and protecting water resources.
  • Ways to conserve water: taking shorter showers, turning off faucets when not in use, and fixing leaks.
  • Educational initiatives are also crucial for promoting water conservation.
  • Community clean-up events can protect local water sources.

Parks Canada

  • It works with the government, conservation groups, and Indigenous communities
  • Focus on culture and science camps plus preserving important sites and cultural centers to protect Canada's natural and cultural heritage

Natural Resources

  • Natural resources are materials or substances occurring in nature

Conservation

  • The protection of natural resources

Responsible Actions

  • Turning off lights, using both sides of paper, and opting for reusable packaging contributes to saving energy and reducing waste
  • Recycling saves resources, while reducing pollution and costs
  • Living kindly by only taking what is needed guarantees enough resources survive for everyone.
