Study Notes
- Earth's parts are organized into four systems.
- Systems are collections of different components working together.
Atmosphere
- A gas layer surrounds Earth
- It contains nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other gases.
Geosphere
- Includes solid and molten rock inside Earth.
- Consists of soil, rock pieces, and Earth's surface land features.
- Hills, mountains, erupting volcanoes, and other landforms are part of it.
Hydrosphere
- Includes all of Earth's liquid and solid water such as oceans, lakes, rivers, glaciers and ice caps.
- Covers more than 70% of Earth's surface.
- Exists as saltwater and freshwater; most freshwater is ice and most saltwater is in the ocean.
Biosphere
- Includes all of Earth's living things.
- Organisms live from the lower atmosphere to the ocean floor depths.
- All living things are part of it.
