Study Notes
Driving License and Regulations
- G1 and G2 licenses have specific restrictions regarding driving times and passenger allowances.
- Drivers with a G1 license cannot drive from midnight till 5 AM, during bad weather, or in rush hours.
- G1 drivers can only operate vehicles on highways with speed limits over 80 km/h when accompanied by a certified instructor.
Driving in Adverse Conditions
- In heavy fog, low beam headlights should be used to enhance visibility without causing glare.
- Safe distance from the vehicle in front should be maintained, typically at least three to five car lengths.
Traffic Signals and Intersections
- A red traffic signal requires drivers to stop and yield to pedestrians before proceeding cautiously.
- At intersections, if the road is blocked, drivers should stop and wait for traffic to clear instead of entering.
Hand Signals and Vehicle Control
- Correct hand signals are crucial for communicating intentions: arm straight out for a left turn, arm up for a right turn, arm down for stopping.
- If wheels drop off the road, reduce speed and turn back gently when safe.
Emergency Procedures and Accidents
- Vehicles must have flares or reflective devices placed 30 meters in front and behind if disabled on highways exceeding 60 km/h.
- In case of an accident, a report to the police must be made immediately or within 24 hours.
Right-of-Way Rules
- At uncontrolled intersections, the right-of-way is given to the vehicle approaching from the right.
- Left turns at intersections should be made close to the left-hand side of the roadway to facilitate safe passage.
Speed and Distancing Regulations
- When passing commercial vehicles, maintain a distance of at least 30 meters on highways.
- When a truck is disabled, properly placing reflective signals significantly enhances road safety.
Use of Vehicle Lights
- Vehicle lights must be on during poor visibility and from 1/2 hour before sunset to 1/2 hour after sunrise.
- Parking lights are only to be used for parking; they are not suitable for driving in fog.
License Points and Suspensions
- Accumulating 9 or more demerit points within the first two years can lead to license suspension.
- Reinstatement of a license after a 15-point suspension doesn't reduce previous points; they remain on record.
