    Study Notes

    PDF+ and Normalized PDF

    • Both PDF+ and Normalized PDF are regular PDF files that can be opened and edited in any PDF editor or reader.
    • They contain additional information available to compatible editors.
    • PDF+ and Normalized PDF implement specific limitations and specifications.

Key Features of PDF+ and Normalized PDF

    • PDF+:
      • Stores ink order in the file.
      • Includes non-printing data (Cut, Die, etc.) and special processing steps (varnish, etc.).
      • Supports Technical Inks and Varnish.
    • Normalized PDF:
      • Also stores ink order in the file.
      • Includes non-printing data (Cut, Die, etc.) and special processing steps (varnish, etc.).
      • Supports Technical Inks and Varnish.
      • Document Profile as output intent is obligated; if none is present, a default profile will be added when saving.

    Creating and Opening Files

    • New files are created in PDF+ format.
    • Files can be opened by selecting File > Open, using a shortcut, or by dragging and dropping a supported file.

    Layer Structure

    • When inserting content, layer structure is merged following specific principles:
      • If a source layer name matches a layer in the current document, objects are inserted in that layer.
      • A new Processing Step layer or Artwork layer will be created if the source layer doesn't exist in the current document.

    Document Setup

    • Document Setup allows adding a Distortion value to compensate for printing distortions.
    • Distortion Factors of a placed PDF+ or Normalized PDF are ignored.

    Additional Features

    • Plate Cutting Paths can be combined and created from closed or open paths.
    • Step & Repeat based on an MFG or CF2 file allows adding Panel Tags with bleed information.
    • Image Inspector and Placed Art Inspector show scaling information for linked images and placed art.
