Study Notes
Diaskintest: A Novel Intradermal Test for Tuberculosis Diagnosis
- Diaskintest is an innovative intradermal test that improves the quality of diagnosis of tuberculosis infection.
- The test is based on a recombinant protein, combining CFP10 and ESAT6, which are key proteins determining the virulence properties of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MBT).
Mechanism of Diaskintest
- These proteins are not synthesized by the M.Bovis (BCG) vaccine strain or most non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
- Unlike tuberculin, Diaskintest does not cause a cross-reaction to the antigens of the BCG vaccine strain and most non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
Administration and Evaluation
- The setting of Diaskintest is identical to the Mantoux Test and does not require significant skills and material costs.
- The result of the reaction is evaluated after 72 hours.
Immune Response and Result
- Diaskintest is based on the development of an immune response of the delayed-type hypersensitivity type.
- The test is positive in the form of papules of any size, indicating an active tuberculosis infection and the reproduction of mycobacteria in individuals with an adequate immune response to specific antigens CFP10 and ESAT6.
Advantages and Accuracy
- Diaskintest has high specificity (almost 100%) and practically does not give false positive reactions associated with BCG vaccination and sensitization by non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
- It allows for accurate diagnosis of the active tuberculosis process and identification of infected individuals with a high risk of developing the disease.
