Basic Operations on the Desktop

Highlight an icon by clicking directly on it, making it active for further actions.
To deselect an icon, click anywhere outside it on the desktop area.
For consecutive or adjacent icon selection:
- Click on the first icon in the desired range.
- Hold down the Shift key and click on the last icon, highlighting all icons in between.
- Release the Shift key to complete selection.
For selecting non-contiguous icons:
- Press and hold the Control (Ctrl) key.
- Click on each icon individually to select multiple items without selecting those in between.
Open an application by:
- Clicking on its icon and then pressing Enter.
