General Information
- The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) provides the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC).
- The French examination is Paper 02, assessing General Proficiency.
- The test code is 01222020.
- The exam date is May/June 2024.
- The exam is a free-response paper.
- The exam duration is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Instructions for the Examination
- The paper includes four sections.
- Answer questions in each section.
- All answers must be written in the spaces provided in the booklet.
- Margins must not be written in.
- Rewrite answers if necessary using the extra lined pages in booklet's back.
- Draw a line through the original answer when rewriting on the extra lined pages.
- Write the question number, and the question part beside the answer box at the top of the extra pages.
Section I: Directed Situations
- Respond to each situation in French.
- Write no more than one sentence for each situation.
- Don't translate the given situations.
- Do not use abbreviations.
- Answers must be written in the spaces provided.
- Disregarding instructions results in penalties.
- This section has a total of 30 marks.
Section II: Letter
- Write a letter in French, using 130-150 words, with appropriate tenses.
- Disregarding instructions results in penalties.
- The letter is to Marie, recounting the details of winning a competition.
- Include the following details in the letter:
- Details of the competition (date, time, location, activities).
- How you prepared for the competition, including who helped and how often you met.
- The most challenging/enjoyable aspect of the competition.
- What you plan to do with the prize money.
- Do not write you real name and address, but include the date in French, plus an appropriate beginning and ending.
- This section has a total of 30 marks.
Section III: Contextual Dialogue
- Complete the dialogue between you and the French correspondent in the blank spaces provided.
- Give your responses in French, using between 80 and 100 words.
- Disregarding these instructions results in penalties.
- Describe the first day as an exchange student in Martinique to the correspondent.
- The responses have to include all of the following cues listed below:
- Exchange of greetings and feelings about your first day.
- Things found that were different from the school.
- Things that were similar to the school.
- One beneift of the activity.
- What you will tell your friends when you get back home.
- This section has a total of 20 marks.
Section IV: Reading Comprehension
- Read the selection carefully.
- Do not translate.
- Questions must be answeredin English.
- Disregarding instructions results in penalties.
- Base response on the selection provided.
- Use a complete sentence for each response.
- The passage is about Jacqueline, who lives in the country.
- Jacqueline has been living in the countryside for two years, moving from Les Abymes, Guadeloupe.
- Les Abymes has an airport and is a lively town.
