Study Notes
Additional Requirements
- Required courses from various departments or programs to support major.
- Not included in the minimum 2.0 GPA needed for major graduation.
- May be waived or substituted at the department’s discretion.
- Can count towards a minor and General Education, unless prohibited.
Certificate
- Comprises a minimum of 12 interdisciplinary units in a specific study area.
- Not limited to matriculated or undergraduate students.
- Three types of certificates: Certificate of Completion, Certificate of Special Study, Certificate of Advanced Study.
Certificate of Completion
- Awarded for successfully completing a structured educational experience with specific academic goals.
Certificate of Special Study
- Requires at least 12 semester units of upper division or professional courses.
- Must follow a pre-determined structured program.
Certificate of Advanced Study
- Special study program at the postbaccalaureate level.
Concurrent Enrollment
- Various types include Open University Enrollment, concurrent enrollment at other CSU campuses, and enrollment at non-CSU institutions.
- Combined enrollment must abide by unit load restrictions.
Core
- A common set of courses that must be completed by all students within a major or minor.
Degree Progress Report (DPR)
- Tool for students and advisors to track academic progress.
- Displays completed courses, major application, General Education, and degree requirements.
Double-Counting
- A single course fulfilling two different requirements, e.g., major and General Education.
Electives
- Courses chosen by students to satisfy total unit requirement for their degree or major.
Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Computed by dividing grade points earned by units attempted.
- Three GPA types: cumulative (all units), CSU units, and semester-based.
- Minimum of 2.0 GPA required for graduation; higher for master's degree students.
Major
- Collection of required courses providing knowledge and skills for a specific career or advanced study.
- Minimum 2.0 GPA in major courses required for graduation.
Minor
- Formal set of courses distinct from a student's major, requiring a minimum of 12 semester units.
- At least 6 units must be upper-division residence units.
- Minors must also achieve a minimum 2.0 GPA.
My Degree Plan
- An interactive tool for course planning aligned with degree requirements.
Option
- Focused set of courses within a major beyond core requirements, reflected on the diploma.
Prerequisite Requirements

Roadmap

Units
