Copyright in the Philippines
- Copyright is all the rights enjoyed by the owner of artistic or literary works
- Works protected by copyright include books, articles, periodicals, newspapers, letters, musical compositions, maps, photographic works etc.
- Copyright covers the reproduction of the work, its adaptation, distribution, dramatic translation, and other manipulations.
- Philippine law does not protect works that are not original intellectual creations in the literary and artistic domain
Derivative Works
- Derivative works are also protected by copyright
- Copyright over derivative works does not affect existing copyright on original works
- Examples of derivative works include dramatizations, translations, adaptations, arrangements, and other alterations of literary or musical works.
Fair Use
- The fair use of a copyrighted work for purposes like criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, research, and other similar purposes is not considered infringement
