    Study Notes

    Control System (SIBAS 32)

    • The main components of SIBAS 32 are: Central Control Unit (CCU), Traction Control Unit (TCU), Brake Control Unit (BCU), Man-Machine Interface (MMI), Multi-Vehicle Bus (MVB), and SIBAS Klip Station (SKS).
    • The control technology is designed redundantly, with two CCUs per train located in the driver's cab.
    • CCUs control the entire train and its display.
    • Units and vehicles are connected via a redundant MVB (Multi-Vehicle Bus) with lines A and B.
    • If the MVB fails, a degraded mode (RDM) allows operation, but the display is off, and auxiliary lamps are on.
    • All controlled switches, buttons, and consumers connect to KLIP stations.
    • KLIP stations are distributed input/output stations for CCU, reducing control line lengths.

    Traction Controls

    • The vehicle is a three-phase vehicle controlled via a TCU.
    • The TCU processes propulsion and braking commands (electronic brake) and sends this information to the current converter.
    • TCU failure prevents autonomous operation, but this is not a critical issue if the unit is part of a train.

    Brake Control

    • All brake-related components, except the driver's automatic brake valve, are connected to the MVB bus.
    • The CCU calculates brake forces for the EP and ED brakes.
    • An EP unit converts brake value to compressed air.
    • Wheel slip protection (sliding/skidding protection) is available only for driven axles, meaning driver needs to brake earlier on slippery rails.
    • If a brake malfunctions, the driver can use the emergency brake or automatic brake valve.
    • In case of a BCU failure, the TCU takes over its functions.

    Automatic Vigilance Device

    • An Automatic Vigilance Device is implemented via a master controller.
    • If a driver disengages vigilance monitoring, brakes are automatically applied and power is cut off during operation.
    • This function is disabled below 5 km/h speed.
    • In rescue mode, brakes are applied immediately, regardless of the monitoring switch, if speed is below 5 km/h.

    Display Support

    • The Man-Machine Interface (MMI) is located in the driver's cab and displays important function statuses using colored icons.
    • The display helps the driver detect faults and provides the corresponding remedial actions for error messages.

    Different MMI screens

    • The MMI shows various relevant information, including but not limited to: train number, date, time, main screen, massage text, short message, and soft keys. It provides a visual overview of critical aspects of operation and status.
    • The system includes different MMI screens to display essential information in a clear and concise manner.

    Main Tasks of the TCU

    • The TCU is used for processing, evaluating, storing and transferring data and signals.
    • Its main tasks include: data exchange with other basic units (e.g., using the MVB), controlling power switches, regulating traction and regeneration braking, monitoring various parameters (power switches, current, voltage, temperature), and diagnostics.

    SIBAS 32 System

    • The SIBAS 32 system uses 32-bit microprocessors and is employed for modulating and logic control in mass transit systems, such as light rail vehicles, subways, and high-speed trains.
    • The system controls, monitors, and protects the vehicle's drive and performs information processing for the entire vehicle.
    • SIBAS-KLIP handles local recording and control of digital and analog signals.
    • The peripheral signals from the vehicle are connected to the I/O module of a SIBAS-KLIP substation (SKS).
