Contract Details

- Tolling involves 60 days for investigation and 45 days for discipline.
- Discipline becomes effective on the date the employee signs.
- Documents are not placed in the personnel file until the grievance process is complete.
- For promotional processes, relevant documents are kept in the personnel file for 2 years.
- Reprimands or counseling records are kept for 1 year.
- Suspension without pay remains until Step 3 of the grievance process is completed for discharge cases.

Additional Contract Terms
- Job-related disability accrues for the first 30 days.

- Vacation allocation varies by battalion size. -Battalions with 1-4 stations get 1 vacation slot per rank. -Battalions with 5-11 stations get 2 slots per rank. -Battalions with 12+ stations get 3 slots per rank.
- The first round of vacation picks must be a minimum of 4 consecutive days, up to a maximum of 10 days (40 hours equivalent to 20 days). -Any request exceeding the maximum must be approved by the Deputy Chief. No part of an approved vacation lasting 11 shifts or more can be cancelled.
- The second round requires a minimum of 3 consecutive days.
- Rounds one and two are open for 14 days each
- The third round allows for single-day picks on a first-come, first-served basis. -Seniority applies within 7 days, without causing overtime.
- Limits do not apply to probationary firefighters.
Vacation Rescission and Cancellation
- Vacation can only be rescinded in the event of a major emergency. -Examples include earthquakes, tropical storms, hurricanes, or civil emergencies.
- Employees have 19 hours of their shift, 24 hours to cancel vacation.
- All others can cancel or request within 3 business days.
- The DC approves emergency leave (SOG BC can approve if less than 6 hours but should contract the DC for approval).
- 40-hour employees can take vacation on 1/1.
- Vacation sweeps occur on 4/15 over 500 hours-UT pool.
- Notification deadline before 3/1 if entering a drop within 12 months and bypassing sweep.
- Sick leave: 11/1- 120 hours. (11/2026- 112.5 hours). 42 hour- 105 hours. 40 hour- 100 hours.
Sick Leave Policies
- For 121, 113, and 106-hour employees, compensation is 85% of pay for 3 months.
- After 3 months through 12 months, it is 65%.
- No sick leave compensation is provided after 12 months, and employees must return within 18 months.
- All other employees who exceed their annual allotment receive 85% for 3 months.
- It is 65% from 3 months to 9 months.
- Supplement pay with vacation or reserve vacation.
- New sick allotment must use: 48, 45, 42 hours.
- Employees with less than the full allotment when starting extended leave must pay back hours at an equal rate plus the new allotment.
- Maximum leave time for Special Risk is 18 months, for Apparatus Techs: 12 months, and for all others: 9 months.
- Full duty is required to start a new extended leave: 6 months.
- If less than 6 months, two leaves are counted accumulatively.
- Sick leave for probationary employees is prorated after 6 months.
- A doctor's note is required every 30 days.
Sick Leave Usage and Notification
- There are 9 approved uses of sick leave. -Incapacitation injury/illness -Contagious conditions -Prescribed medical treatment -Family care (6 letters), up to 6 months in an 18-month period with 65% pay -Hospitalization (15 letters), up to 3 months in a 15-month period with 65% pay -Exam/treatment days for personnel -Baby bonding, 6 weeks at 100%, or 3 months at 65% with the use of half sick time allotment -Pregnancy, documented high risk, with delivery switched to baby bonding -Prior authorization for something not described above
- Sick leave call out must be 30 minutes before the shift.
- For the Communications Center, it is 90 minutes.
- Occurrences: 12 hours equals 1 occurrence, multiple partial sick days added to make 12 hours counts as 1 occurrence.
